CITIES & PORTS
Bucharest is known for its wide, tree-lined boulevards and nicknamed “Little Paris,” which is reflected in elegant early 20th-century French influenced architecture. Bucharest suffered greatly from its communist past but has managed strong economic growth over the last 20 years which has modernized the city. Enjoy a Bucharest City Tour to learn about Romania’s largest city & the country’s capital, and see the gigantic neoclassical Palace of Parliament.
Brasov & Bran Castle, Romania
Brasov is located in the central part of Romania. It is surrounded by the Southern Campaniles and is part of the Transylvania region. Visit the Black Church of Brasov before continuing to Bran Castle, commonly known as Dracula’s Castle. Built in the 14th century, Bran Castle was initially a border fortress on the Transylvanian and Wallachian border. It became a castle only in 1920 when Transylvania was united to the rest of Romania at the end of First World War.
The Black Sea Coast & Constanta, Romania
See the golden sand beaches of the Black Sea during a visit to Constanta, the oldest inhabited city in Romania and an important cultural & economic center. The ancient metropolis was founded by Greek colonists in the 6th century and features a charming historic center & the famous Genovese Lighthouse.
Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria
Board a motorcoach for an excursion to Veliko Tarnovo, a medieval Bulgarian town picturesquely located on the steep banks of the Yantra River at the foot of the Balkan Mountains featuring houses built on narrow terraces along the rocky slopes. Make a photo stop at the Zarewaz Fortress (Tsarevets) and visit the 13th century medieval St. Peter & Paul church. Enjoy time to see the local arts and crafts on the main shopping street.
The natural beauty of the Danube River is on full display as you make your way around bends and through the picturesque ‘Iron Gates’. This beautiful passage of the lower Danube between two mountain ranges is one of the world’s most scenic river gorges forming a natural border between Serbia & Romania. Two hydroelectric dams control the water flow allowing travellers to cruise peacefully and admire enormous white chalk cliffs, caves & rock sculptures.
Discover Serbia’s beautiful capital, Belgrade, whose history dates back some 7,000 years. Enjoy a Belgrade City Tour to see the Orthodox cathedral and walk through the city’s most famous landmark, the Belgrade Fortress, an imposing structure at the confluence of the Danube and the Sava Rivers. Belgrade features gracious architecture and is now a modern European city, known as “the city that never sleeps.”
Visit the tiny harbor town of Mohacs, a melting pot of nations near the Croatian Border. Learn about two historic battles centered here, explore the waterfront & the famous Chapel of St. Rochus during your Mohacs Walking Tour.
Budapest, the capital city of Hungary is often described as the “Pearl of the Danube.” The capital has two sides, Buda & Pest, divided by the Danube River. Suburban Buda and its historic castle district offers medieval streets, museums and Roman ruins. The dynamic Pest side boasts the largest parliament building in Europe, riverside promenades, flea markets, antique stores and cafés. During your Budapest City Tour start with Pest’s National Opera House & historic Heroes’ Square while in Buda stroll Fisherman’s Hill to Fisherman’s Bastion & Mathias Church.
