Day 1 - Depart USA - Arrive Bogota

Bienvenedos Colombia! Arrive in Bogota, and meet your English speaking Tour Director. Check into your hotel and the remainder of the day at leisure to relax or explore Bogota on your own. Enjoy a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant tonight with your fellow travelers. (D)

 

Day 2 - Bogota

This morning, your full day of sightseeing begins with a visit to the Paloquemao Market, the largest local farmers market in Bogota. See local farmers and Colombian’s selling everything from flowers, exotic fruits, vegetables, spices, meats and seafood. Enjoy a walking tour of historic Bogota, starting with the historical colonial quarter of La Candelaria. Visit Plaza de Bolivar, the main square with its several important buildings including the Palace of Justice, the Colombian Congress, the Mayor’s office and the Cathedral of Bogota. Standing proud in the plaza’s centre is a statue of Simon Bolivar, founder of Colombian independence. Visit the Botero Museum dedicated to Fernando Botero, Colombia’s most famous artist whose plump sculptures and art forms are instantly recognizable around the world. Next ride the gondola up to the monastery of Monserrate, a site of worship since 1657 and see the quaint whitewashed church built in the 17th century. Return to your hotel and the evening is at leisure to explore on your own. (B)

 

Day 3 - Bogota - Fly to Medellin

This morning enjoy a guided tour of the Gold Museum with the finest collection of gold in the world, numbering more than 35,000 pieces. Next we transfer to the airport for the short flight to Medellin. Enjoy a city tour of Medellin and explore downtown, the historical center and the Botero Plaza with an exhibition of artist Fernando Boteros sculptures. Next visit the Museo de Antioquia which houses many famous life works donated by Fernando Botero including his fascinating paintings depicting the death of Pablo Escobar. Following lunch take the Metro cable gondola up to Santo Domingo, enjoying the spectacular view of Medellin, you'll learn more about the complete transformation of what was once one of the most dangerous cities in the world now a melting pot of cultures and warm and friendly people. Day 4 - Medellin - Coffee Plantation Tour

Today you drive to the lush Colombian countryside to visit the Finca Oro Molido Coffee Plantation. Learn about Colombia’s coffee and understand the complicated process of producing the world’s finest coffee and learn about the seed-to-cup process. The highlight is a genuine coffee tasting experience, you’ll analyze the aroma, flavor, and body of a great cup of coffee followed by an included lunch. Return to Medellin later with the evening at leisure and dinner on your own to explore Medellin. (B,L)

Day 5 - Medellin - Fly to Cartagena (UNESCO)

Transfer to your short flight to Cartagena de Indias, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and considered one of the continent’s cultural treasures. See breathtaking colonial architecture, horse drawn carriages and narrow cobbled streets. Next enjoy a walking tour and food experience to taste some of the local food and flavors of the city. This experience takes you to discover different sites and interact with people from this colonial city. Your guided tour features seven authentic food stops where you will experience local food specialties. Your guide will also give you insight into Cartagena’s culture and history. Check into your hotel for a three night stay. (B,L)

 

Day 6 - Cartagena Sightseeing

This morning enjoy a guided walking tour of Cartagena’s historic walled old town. See Puerta Del Reloj (Clock tower entrance), the Plaza San Pedro Claver with its stunning Church, and Plaza Bolivar. Next walk through Las Bóvedas, these 23 vaults were built in the 18th century, the last major colonial construction made within the city walls for military purposes later they became jail cells. Today they are used as craft markets where you can find handcrafts, antiques, galleries, jewelry and other souvenirs. Continue your tour to the impressive San Felipe Fort (Castillo San Felipe), the largest Spanish fortification in the Americas. Later visit the Getsemani district, an outer walled neighborhood with Spanish colonial architecture. This area has experienced 21st century renaissance and now is an authentic charming neighborhood with colonial architecture, dance halls, art historic buildings, restaurants, food vendors and public plazas. Enjoy a horse drawn carriage ride thru the historic walled old town to a local restaurant for your farewell dinner. (B,D)

 

Day 7 - Cartagena - Day at Leisure - Rosario Islands Optional Tour

A full day at leisure to relax, shop or explore Cartagena on your own or join a full-day optional excursion to the beautiful Rosario Islands archipelago. After a transfer to the pier, you board a motorboat for the ninety minute journey south. This group of 27 separate Islands are a National Natural Park, and one of the most important coral reefs of the Caribbean Colombian coast. Enjoy time to swim or snorkel in the beautiful crystal clear waters or relax in a hammock on the white sandy beaches. A delicious lunch is included. Return to Cartagena in the late afternoon with the remainder of the day and evening at leisure. (B)

 

Day 8 - Cartagena - Return to USA

Transfer to the airport for your flight home with memories of Colonial Colombia. (B)
